When oil was hitting record highs every day, people were angry. They were trading in their SUVs, Trucks, and other gas guzzlers for gas sippers. There was a 4 or 5 month wait for hybrid cars at my local Toyota dealership, and things weren’t much easier around other parts of the country. Finally, congress started to pass measures to help introduce new ways of powering our vehicles and homes.
Now that oil has fallen, these measures have been put on the back burner. Creating renewable energy has hit a road block because many don’t see oil prices as a crisis anymore. What short term memory loss we have.
The problem is not only that oil will climb to highs again, we’re still causing a climate crisis, but we can’t look past our own wallets to notice.
Whoever is elected on Tuesday needs to do something about this and needs to make sure that these measures aren’t forgotten about once gas gets more affordable.
